Whole Prey Values
Reptiles, particularly carnivorous ones (e.g., snakes, monitors, tegus), benefit from whole-prey diets. Coturnix quail are often fed whole (feathers, organs, bones) because:
Bones provide calcium – essential for reptiles to avoid metabolic bone disease.
Organs (liver, heart) add vitamin A, iron, and other micronutrients.
Feathers and skin offer fiber and help regulate digestion in some species.
Calcium-to-Phosphorus Ratio (C:P)
Ideal for reptiles: 2:1
Whole quail (adult): ~1.2:1 to 1.4:1, which is acceptable but not optimal — supplementation may be needed for long-term feeding.
